Council announce new scheme to curb street-side waste in student areas
12th November 2020
Leeds City Council (LCC) have announced new deterrents to prevent bins being left out on the street in large student areas.
The council’s Cleaner Neighbourhoods Team and Waste Management team said they aim to stop people from leaving bins out and overflowing.
Warning letters will be sent to offending properties, and a second warning will be sent if the problem is still not fixed the next day.
After a third warning a £75 fine will be issued to each tenant.
They have shortlisted a number of streets which will be monitored, however a finalised list of names will be revealed soon.
In order to make sure each property has the right bins the council will be marking them with numbers and street initials.
