Where to live in Leeds
28th January 2019
It's almost as individual a question as what to study, but for students looking for houses to rent in Leeds, we've got the lowdown on the most popular options to help you decide.
Burley
A students favourite, Burley has great housing options for a single renter up to a group of 8+. Within 15-20 mins walk to most university campuses and a little further to the centre of town. As Burley is one of the most popular areas for students to live it has a really buzzing atmosphere and there's always something going on.
Leeds City Centre
Leeds isn't just trees and suburbs, the city centre is undoubtedly one of the best places to live not least because everything is on your doorstep train station, pubs, shops and restaurants. But also Leeds is one of the most up and coming cities with many business relocating to Leeds and large scale investment into the city centre. Be aware the prices are slightly higher than in the surrounding towns.
Hyde Park
Where are the most popular student houses to rent Leeds? Many people would tell you Hyde park. Famous for its convenience, you can be on campus within 15 minutes - walking! That's a real incentive for those who like to press the snooze button. Another thing that makes Hyde Park a key student location is its diversity, with loads of pubs, shops and cafes literally on the doorstep. Any downsides? Well it's a tough place to revise with so much going on night and day so you'll want noise cancelling headphones when exams come around so you're not seduced outside.
Headingley
This is another high ranking location for student accommodation. It's a bit more upmarket than Hyde Park and if you're looking for a student let with a bunch of mates, there are some gorgeous large properties with brilliant outside space that you can make your own. Headingley also ranks highly for sport with both the Yorkshire County Cricket Club and the Leeds Rhinos playing out of Carnegie Stadium. Downsides? You can spend a fortune in some of the indie boutiques on Otley Road!
Woodhouse
An up and coming location, Woodhouse sits next to Hyde Park and near the city centre with great transport links to the Leeds Beckett campus or those who are supplementing student loans with a job in town. What makes Woodhouse houses Leeds so popular is the amazing Woodhouse Moor which is a bit of open country between Woodhouse and Hyde Park that has to be seen to be believed. Downsides? It's a little more difficult to find multi-occupancy housing here.
Kirkstall
Twenty minutes by bus from the city centre, Kirkstall is another popular student destination. It's a little further away than the other venues we've described, but that's balanced by having the Cardigan Fields Shopping Outlet right on your doorstep. Downsides - it's more of a commute than some of the other student let locations - but many students think it's worth it.
